			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You have to be a member of the NYRR to qualify automatically for the New York Marathon.  If you joined NYRR on or before January 31, 2008, you remain a current member, and you completed nine (9) qualifying NYRR races in 2008 and will have volunteered at one race before January 31, 2009, you have met the requirements for eligibility for guaranteed entry for the ING New York City Marathon 2009.  In the likely event that you fail to meet the NYRR’s strict criteria and have failed to attain a place in this years running of the New York Marathon you may want to consider running on behalf of your favourite charity who are allocated guaranteed places.  Below is a list of charities with guaranteed places up for grabs!</p>

<li><a href="http://www.getkidsgoing.com/new_york_marathon.htm" target="_blank">Get Kids Going!</a> is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people &#8211; up to the age of 26 yrs &#8211; the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport.</li>
<li>The <a href="http://www.nspcc.org.uk/getinvolved/raisemoney/runschallengessports/newyorkmarathon_wde45901.html" target="_blank">NSPCC</a> lobby and campaign for better laws and policies to protect children.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.mind.org.uk/How+you+can+help+us/Fundraising+events+root/Run+for+mind/NewYork/" target="_blank">Mind</a> is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. They work to create a better life for everyone with experience of mental distress.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.childrenssociety.org.uk/what_you_can_do/active_events/runs/ing_new_york_city_marathon_2008/3973.html" target="_blank">The Children’s Society</a> is a leading national charity, driven by the belief that every child deserves a good childhood.</li>
